"King, tell me what’s going on," she pleads.
"Baby, you already know," he says.
Jasmyn closes her eyes. "They’re turning people white." He waits for her to reopen her eyes before answering.
"Yes," he says.

Jasmyn and King Williams move their family to Liberty, California—a planned Black utopia where they hope to finally find community and a place their growing family can thrive.

King quickly embraces Liberty’s vision, including the luxurious wellness center at the heart of the community. But Jasmyn struggles to settle in. Instead of activists and progressives fighting for racial justice, the residents seem far more interested in spa treatments and ignoring the outside world.

As Jasmyn grows closer to the few people who share her unease, she begins uncovering a disturbing secret about Liberty and its founders.

And as the people she loves begin to change, Jasmyn realizes something far more sinister is happening beneath Liberty’s perfect surface.
